JENKINS WINTER MISSION TRIP
WHY SERVE IN JENKINS?
The Jenkins community was literally built for the sake of coal mining in the mountains in the early 1900s, but in the last few decades, the economic situation of this poor community continues to get worse and worse. Mother Teresa visited Jenkins, KY twice on her visits to America and was so moved by the poverty of this community that she personally established a Missionaries of Charity convent there to serve the poorest of the poor in America. Our youth group will be serving with the Missionaries of Charity and sleeping in the home where Mother Teresa stayed while in Jenkins. We will also have the privilege to work with and be housed at the local Catholic parish that serves only a handful of Catholics, St. George Catholic Church.
